Important Information for You & Your Dog

Can I bring other family members to class?

Yes! We encourage the whole family to attend classes whenever possible. We do ask that children under the age of 10 be supervised by an adult. Also, remember that younger children can become restless during class and may need a quiet outlet to occupy themselves while other family members are working with the dog.

How do I know which class is best for my dog and me?

If you have any questions about classes, please contact us at familydogschool@berkshirehumane.org. We will gladly talk with you about selecting the right class for you and your dog.

My dog doesn’t get along with other dogs.  Can I still register for classes?

Unfortunately, our group classes are not suitable for dogs who exhibit aggressive behavior to people or other dogs. However, we would recommend that you contact Haylie Gernert-Dott to schedule private lessons.

If my dog is sick, can I make up a class?

There are no make-up classes, Videos of the missed lesson will be provided.

I have some special needs. Would you be able to accommodate my dog and me?

Our training facility is handicapped accessible. Please contact familydogschool@berkshirehumane.org to discuss how Family Dog School can assist you and your dog.

Are gift certificates available for classes or private sessions at Family Dog School?

They most certainly are! In fact, gift certificates are the perfect birthday or holiday gift for any dog-loving friend or family member, and they’re available in any amount you choose. To purchase a gift certificate to Family Dog School, just stop by the shelter.

What kinds of vaccinations does my dog need to attend class?

We ask that you bring proof of Rabies and DHPP vaccinations. Bordetella is recommended but not required. Dogs also need to have proof of a recent fecal exam that is free of parasites.
