How Much Does It Cost to Adopt?
Adoption fees at Berkshire Humane Society vary and, depending on the animal, come with a variety of pre- and postadoption vaccinations, treatments and services. However, every adoption fee includes care instructions, a free health exam at local veterinarians, a discount at local pet stores and a guarantee of lifetime advice.
We accept personal checks, cash, debit cards and credit cards for adoption fees.
Canine
Adult Dogs: $275
Puppies 8 weeks to 6 months: $375
Senior Dogs 7 years and older: $150
Massachusetts Health Certificate
Spay/neuter surgery
Rabies vaccine for puppies over 3 months of age
Age-appropriate distemper vaccine
1st deworming
Bordetella, or kennel cough, vaccine
Testing for Heartworm and other tick-borne diseases
ID Microchip
Flea treatments
Ear cleaning, bathing, nail trimming, and other necessary grooming
Discounted Manner Level 1 class at Family Dog School.
Free consultation with Family Dog School on any behavior issues
Please note that the adoption fee does not include training equipment or accessories. You can buy these items at the main shelter or at Family Dog School. All proceeds from these sales benefit Berkshire Humane Society.

Our Buddy Program
If you’d like to adopt more than one dog or cat, we offer special fees under our “Buddy Program.” You’ll pay the regular adoption fee for one of the animals and half off the second pet’s adoption fee. This special savings can bring so much happiness to any bonded pair of animals!
Our Seniors Program
Interested in a senior pet? For any cat or dog seven years and older, we’ll reduce your adoption fee to only $150 for cats and dogs. We love our seniors and know you will too!
