Fee-Waived Adoptathon for Adult Dogs on August 19 Kicks Off Special Events

Berkshire Humane Society and Massachusetts Animal Shelter Support (MASS) coalition partners are holding special adoption events throughout late August and early September for a variety of animals to free up much-needed space in shelters throughout Massachusetts. The events coincide with an NBCUniversal Local’s Clear the Shelters campaign promoted by NBC and Telemundo stations now through September 10th . Berkshire Humane Society partners with Albany NBC affiliate WNYT to feature adoptable animals throughout the campaign.

August 19th through 25th: “Please, Please, Please Come Adopt!”; A Special Dog Adoption Event

Named with a nod to a Sabrina Carpenter song, the event will waive adoption fees for all dogs at least one year old.

August 26th through 30th: Felineanomanon”; a Special Cat Adoption Event

Hard-to-place cats will be available to adopt fee-free, including cats at least 7 years old and those with special medical or behavioral needs.

August 30th through September 1st (Labor Day Weekend): Berkshire Humane Society’s Clear the Shelters Crescendo Event.

Adoption fees of all animals (except for fee-waived cats on the 30th) will be reduced by $50.

September 6th through 8th: “Pink Piggy Club”; Fee-Waived Adoptathon for Small Animals

Adoption fees for all small animals, including hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, birds and rabbits will be waived.

“We’re hoping these events will be as successful as the fee-waived adoptathon for adult dogs we and the coalition had in July,” said John Perreault, Executive Director of Berkshire Humane Society. In that event, we adopted out five dogs who had been in the shelter for a total of 305 days.”

Other coalition partners include four of the MSPCA’s shelters in Boston, Methuen, Salem, and Centerville on Cape Cod; Worcester Animal Rescue League, Dakin Humane Society and Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center. Non-coalition partners participating in some of the events include Lowell Humane, Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts, and Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton.
