Adoption and Food Bank at Berkshire Humane Society’s Great Barrington Satellite Location

On Saturday, August 24, from 10 am to 2 pm, Berkshire Humane Society will host “Another Day in Purradise”, an adoption and food pantry event for dogs and cats at their Purradise satellite cat adoption and boarding center in Great Barrington at 301 Stockbridge Road (Route 7), across from McDonalds.

The event will feature adoptable cats sheltered at Purradise and adoptable dogs brought in for the day from the Dr. John Reynolds Adoption and Education Center (main shelter) in Pittsfield. Pet owners needing assistance in feeding their dog or cats will have the opportunity to sign up for Berkshire Humane Society’s Pet Food Bank and take home some food the same day. The pet food pantry will also accept donations of unexpired pet food or monetary donations to replenish stocks. Anyone stopping in and signing up for Berkshire Humane Society’s newsletter email list will receive a raffle ticket for either two nights of boarding at Purradise or a $50 gift card to Catwalk Boutique, Berkshire Humane Society’s Great Barrington and Lenox resale shops for women’s clothing. Tickets for the shelter’s raffle for a 2025 Subaru will also be available.

“Even though our Purradise location in Great Barrington has been in operation since 2010, many people don’t know it’s there,” said John Perreault, Executive Director of Berkshire Humane Society. “With this event, we hope to raise awareness about this facility and the life-saving programs we offer,” he said. “Our main shelter and wellness clinic are in Pittsfield and we want to serve animal lovers in southern Berkshire County as well,” he said.

Purradise started out as an adoption center for cats and then added feline boarding. “Purradise has a homey feel and is a great place to board your cat, especially if your cat is nervous around dogs,” said Perreault. The only time dogs are at Purradise is when we have them outside for adoption events or vaccination clinics.”

“We’ve also had a cat and dog food pantry available at Purradise for years,” said Perreault. “We’re improving and expanding this program, so are hoping to get the word out about it at the event.

Berkshire Humane Society bought the building housing Purradise last year and plans to expand all services there as well as make some renovations to the interior and exterior of the building. “We hope you stop by on Saturday the 24th so we can share our exciting new plans for Purradise,” said Perreault.
