Find Your New Best Friend
From cats and dogs to small mammals and birds, Berkshire Humane Society (BHS) is the place in Berkshire County to adopt your next companion animal.
At BHS, our adoption counselors love to be match makers and help you find the best new addition for your family and lifestyle – at our main shelter in Pittsfield or at Purradise, our satellite feline adoption center, in Great Barrington.
Besides seeing companion animals of all types, sizes, ages, and personalities, you’ll find that adopting from BHS is a great deal. Adoption fees for cats and dogs include vaccinations, spaying/neutering, micro-chipping, flea and tick treatment, grooming, and more. And every adoption comes with care instructions, a free health exam at local veterinarians, a discount at select pet supply stores, a one-year BHS membership, and a guarantee of life-time advice. We’ll also take back any animal if you can no longer care for him or her.
Before we make our animals available for adoption, we evaluate them behaviorally and medically so we can provide you with as much information as possible about them – as well as help ensure that they are healthy and happy. For example, we use the ASPCA’s SAFER Assessment to evaluate the temperaments of our puppies and dogs. And, from dental care for senior cats to hernia surgery for kittens, we attend to all the medical needs of our shelter animals – no matter how big or small.
If you’re still deciding whether to adopt, please consider this. Every year, thousands of homeless animals in Berkshire County and surrounding areas need loving families. When you adopt from BHS, you prevent pet homelessness in two important ways: you provide a new life for a wonderful animal, and you make room for another animal who is waiting to come to the shelter.
