New BHS Shelter Opened in 2003
The most important financial initiative in the history of the Berkshire Humane Society is still underway.
When it became apparent that our old shelter building could no longer meet the needs of the animals we care for (not to mention the needs of our staff, who do the caring) the BHS Board of Trustees took upon themselves the challenge of raising $4 Million to build a new shelter.
However, instead of waiting until all the money was collected, we wanted to build the shelter during the fund-raising process, so that the animals of Berkshire County could be better-cared for, sooner.
The new shelter was built during the winter of 2002-2003 and opened for business in July of 2003. We have retired over $2.5 Million of debt so far in our Capital Campaign, but we need your help to finish the job.
There are many ways you can give and there are significant naming opportunities remaining, as well.
