It’s Love-A-Bull Month at Berkshire Humane Society!

We always have lots of love to share at Berkshire Humane Society (BHS). So, in February, we’re celebrating Love-A-Bull Month with a variety of special events that spotlight pit bull dogs and responsible ownership of them.

Thanks to another grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, BHS is offering low-cost spaying and neutering to 30 pit bull dogs in Northern Berkshire County. To participate, owners of pit bull dogs in this area will need to register by coming to BHS beginning Tuesday, February 11, complete an application form, and pay a $50 fee. Owners will then schedule an appointment with the two participating veterinarians, Greylock Animal Hospital and North County Veterinary Clinic, between February 12 and April 31. After the dog is spayed or neutered, BHS will provide a $25 rebate to the owner. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. The fee is nonrefundable and includes a rabies vaccination. For more information about this event, please contact the BHS kennel staff at 413-447-7878, ext. 26

Additionally, during the month of February, BHS will be offering a free training session for any pit bull dog adopted from us. Besides this training opportunity, the adoption fee includes spaying or neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, micro-chipping, deworming, and much more. Stop by the shelter on Barker Road or visit our website, www.berkshirehumane.org, to see some of our pit bull dogs who are looking for their forever homes.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 14, Ollie, our Canine Good Citizen Pit Bull Ambassador who was adopted from BHS, will be offering kisses for one dollar in a special Kissing Booth from 11:00pm-12:00pm and 3:00pm-4:00pm.

Finally, on Sunday, February 16, 2:00pm-4:00pm, BHS will host Caitlin Quinn from the Animal Farm Foundation as the next speaker in our popular Coffee Hour Speaking Series. In her presentation “Changing Perceptions about Pit Bull Dogs,” Caitlin will discuss myths and misunderstandings about pit bull dogs. Ollie will also make an encore appearance!

All events in the Coffee Hour Speaking Series are held at BHS and are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Reservations aren’t necessary, but to save a spot and be eligible for a raffle at the presentation, please call 413-447-7878, ext. 28, or register here.
