November 1, 2012 Pittsfield, MA…The Staff at the Berkshire Humane Society and at Purradise Cat Adoption Center, are excited to announce the adoption specials for November to celebrate Adopt-a-Senior-Pet-Month. In addition to the $50 adoption fee for all pets 7 years and older, this year any senior (age 55+) will be able to adopt a senior pet for free.
Cheryl Truskowski, Shelter Manager, says, “We have several older cats that are often overlooked when it’s time to adopt, so this is a chance to highlight these deserving animals with special incentives, senior dogs are also included in the specials this month too,” she added. BHS is also conducting a raffle for a special basket of goodies to be drawn the last day of November. All senior pets adopted at BHS and Purradise during November will have their names entered in the raffle. The adoption fee will still include the spay/neutering surgery, micro-chipping of the animal and help with any questions from the knowledgeable staff.
There are several good reasons to adopt an older pet; senior pets are normally already housetrained; dogs will know how to ask to be let outside when they need to go, and cats will know how to use their litter boxes. Also with a senior pet what you see is what you get; you know how big your pet’s going to be, how he/she looks, and how active he/she is. Senior cats and dogs are mellower and tend to have better house manners.
The Barker Road shelter is open for adoptions Tuesday thru Saturday 10am until 4pm, Thursday evenings 5-8pm and Sundays 1pm until 4pm. Purradise is open Wednesday thru Friday 12pm until 6pm, Saturday 10am – 4pm and Sunday 12-4pm. Current available pets can also be viewed at the Berkshire Humane Society’s website, www.berkshirehumane.org.
