November 2, 2012 Pittsfield, MA…Once again this year, in honor of Veteran’s Day, the Berkshire Humane Society and Purradise Cat Adoption Center will offer appropriate pet adoptions free of charge for all retired and active military service personnel. The special Pets for Vets Project will be held from November 11th through the 17th. Those qualified military personnel interested in adopting a new pet are asked to present a valid DD214, a VA Medical Card or a Military ID At the time of the application.
Adoption hours at the main shelter on 214 Barker Road in Pittsfield, MA are Tuesday –Saturday 10am -4pm, Thursday evenings 5-8pm and Sunday 1-4pm. Purradise cat adoption center located at 301 Stockbridge Road in Gt. Barrington is open Wednesday – Friday 12 – 6pm, Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm. The Berkshire Humane Society and Purradise, its Cat Adoption center, has placed over 16,000 homeless animals into new loving homes since 1992. BHS also offers free humane education visits and tours for area school children, a community pet food bank for economically distressed pet owners, and works in cooperation with The Elizabeth Freeman Center to provide foster care assistance for the pets of women in crisis through SafePet. BHS receives no public funding and relies on memberships and donations to continue to help animals and people.
